Iraqi Defense Minister visits Armenian Genocide memorial

PanARMENIAN.Net – Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Inad visited the Armenian Genocide memorial in on Thursday, March 25, the website of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute reports.

AGMI director Harutyun Marutyan met the Iraqi delegation headed by Inad, who laid a wreath at the memorial and flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of the victims of the Genocide with a minute of silence.

On April 24, 1915, a group of several hundred Armenian intellectuals were rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. Every year on April 24, worldwide commemorate the anniversary of the Genocide, which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide. Turkey denies to this day.
