Armenian village chief injured in Azerbaijan's shooting

PanARMENIAN.Net – The head of ’s Yeraskh community, Radik Oghikyan, was injured in Azerbaijan’s shooting from across the border late on July 19, the Ministry of Defense reports. Oghikyan was in the process of making preparations to extinguish the fire that broke out in the area as a result of the Azerbaijanis’ actions.

The Defense Ministry said that the Azerbaijani military used various caliber weapons, including grenade launchers, to shell the Armenian positions on July 19-20.

“The Armenian Army declares that they will not allow any change in the line of contact,” the Defense Ministry said.

The situation has been tense on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border for months now, especially near Yeraskh in Armenia, on the border with Nakhijevan.

Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Two Armenian servicemen were killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
