PanARMENIAN.Net – The Armenian government decided on Thursday, July 29 to purchase Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines by spending almost AMD 3.5 billion (over $7.1 million) on the program.
A total of 500,000 doses will be obtained through the funds, which health authorities say will boost the country’s vaccination program by 10%.
Acting Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said she was concerned about the epidemiological situation in neighboring countries and stressed the importance of vaccination in fighting the spread of the virus.
According to her, the inoculation program in the country is gathering pace as 163,000 Armenian citizens have already received the jabs.
Armenia is currently using AstraZeneca, Sputnik-V and CoronaVac vaccines to inoculate people aged above 18. Foreigners currently residing in Armenia and tourists too can receive the jabs free of charge. Travelers, however, will need to spend at least 10 days in the country to become eligible for the shots.
