Armenia sacks National Security chief

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Director of the Armenian National Security Service, Argishti Kyaramyan, was fired on Thursday, October 8, according to a decree signed by President Armen Sarkissian.

Also Thursday, the President signed another decree to appoint Mikayel Hambardzumyan as acting director of the NSS.

Kyaramyan was appointed in the post in June 2020. A month earlier, he was named the deputy chief of NSS after spending several hours as the Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against () in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
