First part of the series of interviews, entitled “Let’s speak honestly: Serzh Sargsyan on the April War,” with Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan:
Why were you silent until the parliamentary hearings on the April war?
I was silent for a long time because I did not want the situation in our country to worsen—deepening the polarization, dividing our society to the end.
What prevented you from speaking?
2018 was a very emotional year. Chaos and aggression were growing day by day, making only our enemies happy. And in that emotional environment, a significant part of our society was not ready to hear the simple truths.
And what was the solution?
Time was needed for everyone to grasp the situation on their own. But we will still talk in detail about all this.
