A 17th-century Armenian illuminated gospel book was auctioned off for
69,300 GBP at Sotheby’s.

The manuscript was initially expected to be sold for 7,000 – 10,000 GBP.

The lot closed on December 1. Thirty-four bids were placed, but the buyer is not known.

The Matenadaran depository of ancient manuscripts had offered Armenian charitable and cultural organizations and benefactors to purchase this valuable manuscript rich with miniatures.
