PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas on Tuesday, August 31 discussed the situation in the aftermath of the incursion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia.
Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Since then, almost a dozen Armenian servicemen have been killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, a dozen others have been wounded, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
The two stressed the need for the resolution of the situation and de-escalation as soon as possible.
Mirzoyan, who is currently paying a working visit to Moscow, discussed with Zas the dynamics of regional and international changes, which have a direct impact on the vital interests of the CSTO member states.
The Armenian foreign policy chief stressed that Yerevan during its upcoming chairmanship in the CSTO will make active efforts aimed at developing and strengthening the potential of the organization. Zas assured that the CSTO secretariat will make all necessary efforts to advance the priorities of Armenia’s chairmanship in the CSTO.
