PanARMENIAN.Net – Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan has told CSTO chief Stanislav Zas that the patience of the Armenian side is not inexhaustible, amid Azerbaijan’s incessant provocations and ceasefire violations on the border.

Karapetyan said was expecting Zas in May, when the situation in the region got quite tense, but no such trip happened back then.

“The situation on our borders is dire. In May, the Azerbaijani forces invaded Armenian territories in two directions. This is extremely worrying for us. There is no way we want an escalation of the situation on our borders, but at the same time we are not ready to come to terms with actions that may lead to the violation of the state border of Armenia,” the Defense Minister said in his opening remarks.

“We will resolutely defend our territories. We, of course, seek to resolve this issue peacefully, demonstrating our love of peace. At the same time, our patience is not inexhaustible either, and in the absence of a peaceful resolution of the situation on our borders, we reserve the right to resolve the matter by force.”

Karapetyan expressed regret that the decision-making and crisis response mechanisms in the CSTO do not meet the requirements for the development of the operational situation.

The two also discussed Armenia’s upcoming chairmanship in the organization, as well as the meetings of CSTO Foreign Ministers, Defense Ministers and Security Council chiefs, slated for September 16.
