Armenian President, UK Minister talk Karabakh war aftermath in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and UK FCDO Minister for and the Americas Wendy Morton on Wednesday, February 17 discussed the aftermath of the war in Nagorno- and issues of security and stability in the region, Sarkissian’s office said in a press release.

At a meeting in , the two prioritized the role of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship in achieving a final and lasting solution to the conflict, the press release added.

Among many important and humanitarian issues, Sarkissian stressed the immediate return of the Armenian prisoners of war and captives by Azerbaijan. The President also weighed in on issues of the preservation of Armenian cultural and historical heritage in areas that have come under Azerbaijan’s control.

The sides also discussed the coronavirus pandemic and the collaboration of the two countries in that area. They also agreed that cooperation in the fields of IT and advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, healthcare, science and education, energy and a number of other fields was promising, The presidential administration said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
