Armenian Defense Minister, Iranian envoy meet in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan and Iran’s ambassador to Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri on Thursday, July 30 have discussed the use of modern drones on ’s northeastern border and the efficient fight against such means.

Tonoyan briefed the envoy on the recent escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Given the regional security issues, the sides exchanged views on the nature of the Turkish-Azerbaijani joint military exercises, assessing their possible impact on the stability in the region.

During the meeting, the process and prospects of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation were discussed, views on regional security and international developments were exchanged.

The situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching several unsuccessful infiltration attempts throughout the next week. The Azerbaijani military also used artillery and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Five servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths. In recent days, though, the situation has been relatively calm.
