Armenia increasing military spending by over $80 million

PanARMENIAN.Net – The National Assembly voted unanimously on Wednesday, October 7 to increase the military spending of by about AMD 40 billion (more than $81 million).

The project is aimed at creating the most favorable conditions for the mobilization of the Armed Forces and the Armenian economy in order to prevent the direct danger of an armed attack on the republic.

The bill also seeks to ensure the normal activity of state and local government bodies, individuals and legal entities during the martial law, as well as to protect the safety the population.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against Karabakh () in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.

Donations can be made to Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, which has launched a fundraising campaign to support Karabakh amid Azerbaijan’s aggression.
