At a meeting with representatives of the Commission on constitutional changes, the President noted that the existing, General meeting of judges and the government/Parliament the power to appoint judges (and not to propose candidates) would be more consistent with the “logic and spirit” of the Constitution and the purposes of the judicial-legal reforms.

In addition, effective and fully functioning the most important democratic principle of checks and balances, and would be provided by an impartial constitutional justice.
Earlier, the government of Armenia decided on their candidate for judge of the COP. They became Vahram Avetisyan. In turn, the General meeting of judges chose yervant Khundkaryan as a candidate member of the CC of Armenia.
We will remind, the National Assembly of Armenia adopted amendments to the law “On the constitutional court” on June 30. According to them, the powers of all constitutional court judges are limited to 12 years.
